An important and impressive mid eighteenth century George II statuary chimneypiece. Richly decorated and highly carved this chimneypiece boasts exquisite carving and rare bossi inlay. Beautifully carved anthemions are repeated across the frieze panels and corner blockings which themselves are defined by simple key formed inlay of green scagliola. The whole frieze is surmounted upon impressive decorative scroll work of finely inlaid coloured Bossi style scagliola.

The projecting corbelled panels to the jambs are carved with acanthus, anthemion and a fine drop of husks and faced each side with panels of richly configured Bardiglio Imperial. This marble frames a white marble inground and informs the central tablet.

The carved break-front shelf is richly carved with fine fluting, beading and egg and dart.

Provenanced to Sir Julian Goldsmith and his home in North Audley Street, Mayfair, London.
