Italian marble is considered the best in the world as is British stone.

That is why British stone and Italian marble constitute the foundations of the very best fireplaces, and why Spencer and Richman Always & Only use Italian marble and British stone.

It is unfortunate that some choose to sell very expensive fireplaces made from Chinese marble, and/or made in China.

We offer a choice of two English stones and two Italian marbles, although rare and specialist marbles are available including some British marbles that work well as inlays.

Bath Stone: this is the beautiful honey stone we associate with Bath and the Cotswolds. It is a competitively priced stone.

Portland Stone: the leading and most notable high quality stone. Recommended by us as the most fitting for many fireplaces.

Italian Statuary Marble: the finest white marble in the world.

Italian Carrara Marble: light grey, and sometimes finely veined.

British marble: when appropriate, we use British marble, for example Ashburton marble from Devon.
