Spencer & Richman
Spencer and Richman was founded in 1995 by three partners: Paul Spencer, Tracey Baker and Paul Richman.Paul Spencer
Paul Spencer studied Fine Art painting at Farnham College of Art. Gifted at drawing and painting he undertook private painting commissions for a number of years. Paul was introduced to fine carving by the infamous Dominic Hurley and became his apprentice.
Paul met fellow carver, Paul Richman in 1995 and together they set up Spencer and Richman in a railway arch in Battersea.
They undertook restoration projects and a number of important commissions however, Paul Spencer’s reputation flourished when they won the contract to replace two stolen Robert Adam chimneypieces from Chandos House.
Chandos House is a late eighteenth-century Grade 1 listed building designed by Robert Adam that became the prototype for many of London’s grand houses.
Dick Reid, the York based Master Carver who, a decade earlier, had famously restored the carved detail at Spencer House, recognised Paul’s talents, and nominated him to the Master Carvers Association.
Since then, Paul has become recognised, like Dick Reid before him, as not only an exceptional carver, but someone who can be trusted with the challenges of restoring lost designs and details on world class projects.
Paul has worked on prestigious public projects for English Heritage, and on private projects where clients demand the best design and craftsmanship.
Paul offers a bespoke design service to clients. His works include exquisite fireplaces, bespoke furniture and objects of beauty. For details or a consultation, please contact Tracey Baker.

Tracey Baker
Tracey Baker, the Creative Director at Spencer and Richman, began her career in advertising and publishing where she learnt how to combine creativity with commercial reality before deciding to develop her own creative talents.
She studied Textiles and Post Structuralism as a Masters at Central St Martins and achieved three distinctions; she went on to lecture in Fine Art Textiles before recognising that she now had the perfect combination of marketing/presentation skills and creative appreciation, to develop Spencer and Richman.
Tracey was also experienced in working with artists, she co-ordinated and produced exhibitions for artists including Mark Wallinger, best known for his sculpture of the empty forth plinth at Trafalgar Square, and the giant white horse that will tower over Kent, and Yinka Shonibare, signed to the Stephen Friedman Gallery.
Tracey joined Spencer and Richman when the company was based in Battersea, and immersed herself in every aspect of the business, bar the carving.
Tracey and Paul found that they worked seamlessly in tandem, and their success has been built on the creative and business balance between the two of them.
Tracey is the first point of contact for clients, and happily divides her time between London and Somerset.
Paul Richman
Just in case you are wondering who the Richman is in the company name, he is a wonderful stone carver who specialised in inlaying marble. He started the business with Paul Spencer back in their Battersea days, but decided that the commercial life was not to his liking.
